Monday 17th May - walk **** - Landguard Nature Reserve – cloudy start
then sunny periods with rain late.
Another cloudy day here in Felixstowe but at least there was no rain, toyed
with the idea of heading to the River Stour at Bradfield to make the most
of a NW breeze but it was marginal at best and dropping too so decided to
give it a miss! So, with exercises and lunch out of the way Mag and I
decided to drive down to The Manor to do one of our favourite walks around
Landguard Nature Reserve as the sun made an appearance:) It was again nice
and quiet with a top sky as we headed through the bramble bushes in search
of Linnnets as a huge container ship was heading into Felixstowe docks. A
few Linnets were spotted along with loads of rabbits as we reached the view
point just in time to see the massive ship slowly head in the Orwell helped
by three tugs! There were three people out with video cameras filming the
ship slowly berth, we sat and watched for awhile in lovely warm sunshine:)
It is not the most exciting thing watching a ship inch towards its berth so
we continued along the wooden walkway and around the large roped off area
for nesting birds spotting again some Wheatears:) Up and across the small
hills seeing a blackbird having a bath before reaching the van. A detour to
Lidl and home arriving just before the rain, another great local walk, so
lucky to live here on the East coast:)
